The last week we have finished collecting the last of the grapes at Batea: Morenillo and Carignan.
This season has been another year where Carignan surprises for its aromatic and structural strength. Collection from the different plots of
Grenache has been staggered in order to ensure optimum expression, avoiding the difficulty of phenolic ripeness that was expected initially. The end result (fermentation still has to be finished) is very positive. Longer macerations have been used than in 2011, and a great extraction potential has been achieved, keeping the identity of the Grenache.
A pre-blend has been made of the two Grenache Blancs, which had been fermented separately, and there is a good base for working with the lees over the coming days.
