LaFou Winery: 92 points for LaFou Els Amelers

Among the more than 700 wines tasted to produce to Parker list by the prestigious US website, The Wine Advocate, LaFou Els Amelers achieved an excellent rating: 92 points.

With this significant recognition LAFOU ELS AMELERS, produced 100% from Garnacha Blanca, has consolidated its reputation, that of the Garnacha Blanca variety and of the Terra Alta appellation in international markets.

LaFou Els Amelers is a pale straw yellow with good luminosity. On the nose it attracts citric notes (grapefruit, lemon pip) swathed in white flowers (jasmine). Aromas of sweet fruit slowly appear (apricot) over a background of nuts (soft almond) and flint, providing a sensation of volume and complexity within a whole dominated by an initial freshness that lasts over time.

The mid-palate combines great varietal structure with an acidity that reinforces the whole, highlighting the wine’s dynamic nature and broadening the citric and floral perception, enveloped by the power of Garnacha Blanca. Generosity and austerity are kept in elegant, powerful harmony, as can be perceived on visiting the Terra Alta region.

Luis Gutierrez, the first Spanish taster for Robert Parker, has published the three articles on Catalan wines at www.erobertparker.com. These are three reports: one devoted to Catalan sparkling wines entitled “Cava and Other Sparkling Wines: Quality or Quantity?”; one devoted to Priorat wines: “Priorat: Back at the Crossroads!; and another covering the rest of the Catalan appellations: “Catalonia and Ten of its Appellations”.

These are three articles that have gained significantly in understanding and thoroughness, notable for their in-depth knowledge of local wines and grape varieties and also the history and challenges facing each appellation.
