The 31st edition of the Wine Festival in Gandesa was held on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The highlight of the festival was the “Mostra de Vi” -the Wine Show – which took place on an avenue called Rambla de la Democràcia, where 32 wineries from the Denomination of Origin Terra Alta came together to showcase their wines. On the evening of Friday the 2nd, the 9th edition of “Nit de les Garnatxes Blanques” – Night of White Grenache- was held at the Gandesa Cooperative Winery, and it has become a classic and popular event at this festival in which white Grenache from the DO Terra Alta is the star of the show. This year guests could taste over 40 wines that were made with this emblematic variety from the Terra Alta region and it included young wines, wine stored in wooden barrels, or liqueur wines. LaFou Els Amelers was one of these wines. A gourmet meal was provided by Vicent Guimerà, a top chef at the one-star Michelin restaurant called l’Antíc Molí in the town of Ulldecona.
The festival also dedicated a day to professionals within the sector – la Jornada Professional – which was held at the church in the historical centre of the town of Corbera. The Joan Figueres Winery held a technical workshop which featured an outstanding presentation by Sarah Jane Evans, Master of Wine and a key figure in the world of wine on an international level. She is also a highly acclaimed writer and wine journalist, as well as co-chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards and chair of the Institute Master of Wine 2018 symposium.
