The British journalist and Master of Wine Tim Atkin and Fintan Kerr, part of Atkin’s team, have presented their first report on Catalan wines.
The Special Report on Catalan Wines 2024 was presented within the framework of the Barcelona Wine Week fair, alongside some of the writers’ conclusions (such as the quality and great diversity of Catalan wines). The creation of the report involved months of work and tasting more than 1,000 wines.
The critics awarded 95 points to LaFou de Batea 2019, including it in the ‘Wines of the Year Best Red Wines’ category. Describing the wine, they highlight “the aromas of ripe fruit, brambly fruit, black cherry, violets, clay and warm earth. The earthy, robust nature of Garnacha Peluda is striking here, with layers of fine, grainy tanning and real weight and presence on the palate”. Finally, they point out that “it is an incredibly long and marvellous wine”.
Other wines from the winery were awarded 91 points or more: LaFou de Rams 2018 scored 93 points, 92 points went to LaFou Els Amelers 2022, with 91 points for LaFou El Sender 2020.
