Wine Advocate (Robert Parker) highlighted and scored points for LaFou de Rams’ Grenache Blanc with 94 points

Wine critic Luis Gutiérrez, taster of Spanish wines for Wine Advocate (Robert Parker) has published his article on Catalan wines. Among the wines tasted, all from various wine regions of Catalonia, were LaFou de Rams and LaFou de Batea.

The first, LaFou de Rams, awarded 94 points by the critics, was the highest rated white wine from Terra Alta. Discussing the wine, he noted that it is “a white Garnacha from a vineyard dating back to 1966”. Regarding the winemaking process, he pointed out that “part of the wine is fermented with the skins, in barrels, and part is pressed and fermented in barrels and stainless steel tanks, aged on the lees for six months. Part of a solera in contact with the skins, from 2016, is also used to make this wine”. The author concludes that “the wine is not about skins or barrels, it’s about freshness. It has elegance and balance. It is varietal, clean, complex and nuanced”.

The other wine from the winery tasted was LaFou de Batea with 92 points. Produced with red and hairy Grenache, planted in the early 1960s, and a small percentage of Carignan, the wine is aged in 300-litre barrels and concrete eggs.
