The first week of February saw the celebration of a new edition of Barcelona Wine Week, Spain’s leading wine fair, where traditional grape varieties of the region took center stage in various presentations and exclusive tastings.
One of the most notable events was a tasting led by the renowned sommelier Ferran Centelles, titled “A journey through the landscape of 6 unique White Garnacha Vineyards in Terra Alta”. Attendees had the opportunity to taste six outstanding wines, all made from singular vineyards and presented by their own winemakers. The wines featured were: LaFou De Rams (LaFou Celler), El Quintà (Barbarà Forés), Finca La Terrenal (Edetària), Vernatxa (Frisach), La Serra Blanc (Herència Altés) and l’ Ànima de l’Avi Arrufí (Celler Piñol).
Meanwhile, Pedro Ballesteros MW led another tasting, focusing on aged Garnacha and Carignan wines from long maturations and old vintages. In this session, titled “A Historical-Sensory tour of the D.O. Terra Alta”, attendees enjoyed a selection of wines showcasing the region’s heritage. Among them was LaFou de Rams 2020, made from a White Garnacha vineyard planted in 1966.
