LAFOU DE RAMS
100% Garnacha Blanca
A vineyard wine that, with the unique character of all the wines of the winery, and a fresh and elegant style, aims to transmit the maximum expression of the variety with which it is made, the White Garnacha, and of the characteristics of the vineyard of origin.
LaFou de Rams comes from the Vineyard of Rams, a vineyard from 1966, located in the lowest part of the estate, at 340 metres. The effect it receives from the “garbinadas” (a type of wind) is higher, marking the freshness a lot and preserving the acidity. The orientation and amplitude of the terrace allows it to benefit from the maximum hours of solar itinerary, favouring the ripening and concentration of the grape.
Part of the wine is made using the “brisado” technique, with an intense and extended pellicular maceration. This maceration, along with the unique particularities of the vineyard, grants it balance and depth. The result, a thoroughbred wine, that rests in the cellar for at least 30 months in order to express itself with maximum splendour.
Manual harvest in boxes. Entrance in the cellar in a cold-storage room at 4ºC, for one night. The grape is destemmed with whole grain with an active table of selection. From here on, different vinifications are used:
As a macerated white wine. When the fermentation begins it is divided into two recipients: in French barrel from 1st to 3rd year of 300 litres of gentle toasting, in contact on lees during 5 months, and in a stainless steel tank.
As an orange wine. The other part of the grapes is crushed and racked in open oak barrels. It is vinified like red grape, with fermentation and pellicular maceration coexisting for 10 days. It is devatted and part of it goes into a stainless steel tank. The rest of this orange wine is kept in a European oak barrel, of 300 litres, with the orange wines from previous years, and subsequently, a small part of it becomes part of LaFou de Rams.
In the blending of LaFou de Rams, each on these four wines contributes its characteristics, every year in different proportions, aiming to enhance the expression of the vineyard and the landscape that surrounds it, and the white Garnacha.
It is a white wine with essence of red. It continues to describe the long history of a land and a variety in which the bouquets open towards the balsamic that transform the liquorice in menthol and close again towards ripe notes of honey and dry fruit. A range of bouquets that make LaFou de Rams a multifaceted wine that invites not to miss any moment of its evolution. Within minutes in the glass, the notes of citrus fruits are born in the centre of the wine, showing some lines of life and freshness.
Volume and smoothness, weight and freshness, rusticity and elegance, and structure and luminosity combine to offer a long recital of nuances, such as a kaleidoscope rich in sensations that take root in the richness of a variety and in a way of vinification that belongs to the identity of the Terra Alta region.
