LAFOU De Batea Terra Alta (2009 ) (75% garnatxa, 15% syrah and 10% carignan): Bright purple. Blackberry and cherry compote on the intensely fragrant nose, with a smoky quality adding complexity. Fleshy, deeply pitched black and blue fruit and fruitcake flavors show impressive clarity and energy, with a floral quality emerging on the back half. Chewy tannins add shape to the long, smoky, appealingly sweet finish. Quite youthful for a five-year-old wine. 91 points
LAFOU Els Amelers Blanca Terra Alta (2013) (100% garnatxa blanca): Light gold. Fresh pear, nectarine and Meyer lemon on the mineral-accented nose. Gently chewy in texture, with bitter pear skin and anise flavors braced by juicy acidity. Finishes long and chewy, with a touch of succulent herbs and a lingering bitter quinine note. 90 points
LaFou El Sender Terra Alta (2012) (a blend of garnatxa, syrah and other native varieties): Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and redcurrant scents are complemented by suggestions of dark chocolate, licorice and minerals. Sweet, round red fruit flavors become deeper with air and show a bright, spice-accented character. Elegantly combines power and vivacity. Closes with youthfully firm tannins, a hint of licorice and very good persistence. 90 points
